Our school’s overarching aims and objectives for our pupils is that PSHE should enable children to become healthier, more independent and more responsible members of society. We will encourage and ensure our children play a positive role in contributing to the life of the school and the wider community through a safe and supportive learning environment.

We teach our PSHE curriculum through focussed themed lessons and themed circle times.

‘SEAL is a comprehensive approach to promoting the social and emotional skills that underpin effective learning, positive behaviour and emotional health in schools.” (National Strategies quote)

At Broomfields Junior School we are champions for Social, Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL).  We teach SEAL through five broad themes:

  • Managing Feelings
  • Motivation
  • Empathy
  • Social Skills
  • Self Awareness

Each year the children nominate SEAL Mentors, who look for positive social and emotional behaviours daily in their classroom and award SEAL stickers.  There are half termly SEAL Commendation Assemblies, where parents are invited into school to help praise and reward their children, who are picked as SEAL role models.

Our assembly themes are based around the SEAL topics: New Beginnings, Getting On and Falling Out, Say No To Bullying, Going For Goals, Good To Be Me, Relationships and Changes.
